Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians in providing care for animals
- Handle and restrain animals during examinations and procedures
- Prepare and sanitize examination rooms and surgical areas
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
- Perform basic laboratory tests, such as bloodwork and urinalysis
- Maintain accurate records of patient care and treatment
- Clean and maintain kennels, cages, and equipment
- Assist with pet care duties, including feeding, grooming, and exercise
- Provide support to clients by answering questions and providing education on pet care
Skills:
- Animal catheterization: Ability to safely insert and remove catheters for fluid administration or sample collection
- Aseptic technique: Knowledge of proper sterile procedures to prevent infection during surgical procedures or wound care
- Laboratory: Familiarity with basic laboratory procedures, such as sample collection, handling, and analysis
- Kennel: Experience in maintaining a clean and organized kennel area for housing animals
- Pet care: Understanding of general pet care practices, including feeding, grooming, and exercise needs
- Pet sitting: Ability to provide temporary care for pets in the absence of their owners
- Dog training: Knowledge of basic dog training techniques to assist with behavior management during appointments or hospital stays
- Veterinary assistant: Proficiency in assisting veterinarians with various tasks to ensure efficient patient care
- Veterinary critical care: Ability to provide specialized care for critically ill or injured animals under the direction of a veterinarian
- Dog handling: Skill in safely handling dogs of various sizes and temperaments during examinations or treatments
Note: Prior experience in a veterinary setting is preferred but not required. Training will be provided.
